Why does my PC occasionally shuts down suddenly, consequently restarts?

Is it a virus? or could it be out of order ram? It's annoying because i'm surrounded by the middle of something then suddenly my workstation shuts down and restarts again. Luckily this pc is a testing one and i don't use it to store valuable information.

Could be alot of things. Unfortunately for me, mine started doing that a few months ago... then out of the blue it shut down and would not start up again. Turned out the CPU fried. Check to see how dusty it is surrounded by the case... the dust could be shorting something out. Get a can of compressed nouns and blow it out.
Could be anything from a driver issue to a program fault. Does it shut down other using the same program? If so, shift to their website and see if they have any patch. Did you install any new hardware just this minute? (mouse, keyboard, video card, etc...) If so, try downloading the most modern drivers. I have have this issue over things from installing mice, to video games. If you also have alot of peripherals, you could be suffering from not satisfactory watts on your power supply. Needless to say, could be various things, Best Buy gives you a free 15-20 minute scan, come on by.
